Week 7 & 8 Reflection

Going into this week's blog, we will be talking about not only week 7 but also week 8 work we did within the class!

Week 7:

For this week, we did Statistics and talking about Measurement. Something i know we can all remember is mean, median, mode, etc.

Standardized Assessment Terms-

Population: The entire group of people for whom typical performance is estimated by the instrument.

Sample: The group of people actually included in the study/test.

Norming: Refers to the process of constructing norms or the typical performance of a group of individuals on achievement assessment.

Week 8:

What we had done over week 8 that is exciting is that we all got our field placements that we will be in starting October 17th! Starting off we did a funnnnnn excel assessment within the classroom, to show how using data drives instruction within the classroom. In the excel sheet we found the mean, median, mode, sum, and standard deviation. I thought that this was very fun because afterwards we got to create graphs to see which kids within that classroom struggled with certain topics based upon their test scores. I really like Excel because I have been using it since freshman year of college but i do forget how to use it sometimes.

Below is one of the bar graphs that I created in my Excel sheet.

Here you can see where the students were more proficient in than others. Then we went into the discussion to close as why are these certain students struggling on most of the tests? Is there a learning situation they are struggling with? Are they ELA students that still don't quite understand the English language fully yet? These are all the questions we have to think about when evaluating assessments in the classroom, and how we can help.

Week 6 Reflection

This was a short week for us but also very informative! Today's blog we are going to be talking about Wednesday's and Friday's class period. Our main focus this week was Alignment and Lesson Planning

Here below is the backwards design that was demonstrated on Wednesday's class period.

The three steps to Lesson Planning: Aligning Standards, Objectives, and Assessment.

Step 1: Start with the Standard
- Standards are what you must teach
- Curriculum can vary and is supposed to help you teach the standards

Step 2: Create an Objective
- Objective must come from the standard
- Adapt it to fit your students' needs and the pacing you are using
- You can use part of the objective if it is complicated

Step 3: Creating the Assessment
- Use your objective as your assessment

In Friday's class period we switch laptops with a partner and had each other read and reflect on our lesson plans that we have been doing. We talk about what is planned for the lesson plan, we analyze our partners plan and assessment and give constructive feedback on what was good and what might need some improvement on.  After analyzing and reflecting our partners plan and assessment, we got to edit and rebuild our lesson plans to be evaluated again.
